Match Report

Watton 0 Norwich II 19

From the outset of this Merit one league fixture Norwich showed touches of class that led to nineteen unanswered points for the visitors.

Norwich received the kick off playing with both the slope and a strong wind at Dereham Road. Immediately the visitors began a twenty minute onslaught, decisive forward play gave quality ball for the would be attackers with close control and quality support play cruised through the Watton defensive lines with missed tackles and an unorganised back line, Norwich made scoring tries look easy as the backs and forwards exploited the space given scoring three times with only a quarter of the game played.

Eventually the home side quashed the Norwich attack and put some decent sets of play together although playing deep in there own half never troubled the score board and managed to take some positives into the second half.

Watton with the environmental advantage began the half with a more determined attitude and took the play to Norwich, making good ground into the opponents half with strong running, every yard was earned as the Norwich defence held strong. The home side having several strong attacking positions failed to push the advantage home and a lack of composure and contact area skills let a number of opportunities go begging. Watton closed the game out and an hour’s play remained scoreless, to the home side’s credit. Norwich still looked the better side with better control linking well from a solid platform. Both sides deserve praise for the second half performance, a glorious display of commitment and genuine passionate rugby bringing the game to its conclusion
