Bright sunshine and near perfect conditions at Walsham saw the Watton outfit receive the kick off in this Merit league One fixture. From the outset both sides played attractive and flowing Rugby, clean ball saw the ball through the hands on several occasions, with North having the lions share but possession couldn’t be turned into points as both forced and unforced errors in handling gave Watton the set play at which they dominated, easily commanding at the scrummage winning on almost every occasion. The home side errors ebbed away with quick ball from the ruck pushed wide for two overlap scores, unconverted 10 – 0.
The restart saw both sides attack in open play a true contest of how the game should be played, notable performances from Jolly & Perry stealing possession on numerous contacts and strong running from Bayley & Barre couldn’t ultimately change the outcome as the home side proved to have the edge on the day breaking the line on two more occasions.
The Watton spirit was amicable as they continued to battle up to the final whistle a much improved performance from the whole team shows that there is much more to come from this “Little club in Norfolk” the final score read North Walsham 25 Watton 7.
