Watton hosted Thetford in this friendly encounter, with conditions less than ideal, a very heavy pitch would prove to make the game a hard fought untidy affair.
With Thetford taking the kick Watton were pinned down in there own territory, dogged work from the Watton pack steadily made progress up the park and after some 10 minutes of play eventually took play into the visitors half. Some excellent driving runs from Hynd & McMullen gave a solid platform for Ansell to run through the visitors lines although unable to offload a touchdown went begging, more solid play from the Watton backs saw John Sheryl in space bursting through only to be pulled down 5 metres short, isolation caused turnover and lines cleared. The last quarter of the half turner scrappy with scrum after scrum slowing the game to a canter, although Watton dominated at the scrummage with Tom Perry striking against the head on several occasions the half petered out.
Watton continued to have the lions share of possession from the restart picking and driving with more urgency bringing some excellent forward play to the visitors line, with Jolly clearing out the ruck gave back row Harris an easy score. With Ansell making short work of the conversion the score read 7 – 0, 20 minutes played.
The game again turned scrappy as Thetford made a better fist of there possession battling hard making good ground, Watton seemed to self destruct as discipline slipped continued infringement awarding Thetford several penalties taking the play to the home sides 22. Thetford forwards attacked with gusto although solid Watton defence prevented any scoring opportunity; this play continued with a stale mate on the 22 as Watton defensive line saw the game to an end.
