Norfolk Junior Cup Final

26/03/2007
FAKENHAM I 30 WATTON 0

Watton travelled to Fakenham in there first ever final appearance of the Norfolk junior cup. Unfortunately it was not there day to make history.
Fakenham being some two leagues higher controlled the game from the off, converting two penalties in the first ten minutes taking a 6 – 0 lead, this trend continued with the wind at there backs kicking for position gaining an attacking scrum in the 22, breaking away on the blind side to touchdown unconverted for a 11 – 0 lead. Watton made a rare excursion into the opponent’s territory resulting in a penalty which was narrowly missed by Turnbull. Fakenham turned on the style carving through the Watton defence running in two converted tries bringing the first half to an end, Fakenham leading 25 – 0.
Watton began the second half on the back foot as Chris Tilley saw yellow for hands in the ruck this advantage was equalled as a Fakenham player also saw yellow for an off the ball incident. With both sides back to full strength Watton spent the next quarter of the game camped in the Fakenham 22 although very good pressure could not be converted into points. The final highlight saw Fakenham score a length of the pitch try with some excellent broken play handling seeing almost 1 to 15 touch the ball, this score was unconverted bringing to a close a 30 – 0 Fakenham victory.
Despite the score-line this game proved Watton have developed into a competitive force in Norfolk rugby.
